2023 season opens with NOSL Final rematch
The City of Ohio SC looks for revenge against Greater Columbus FC on opening weekend
NORTH CANTON, Ohio. - Defending league champions Greater Columbus FC will open the NOSL season with a rematch against 2022 runners-up The City of Ohio SC on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Walsh University.
Though they lost 3-0 at The City of Ohio during the 2022 regular season, Greater Columbus claimed the NOSL title by beating the Ohio City-based team in the NOSL Final last July. In addition to their game counting as an NOSL regular season game, there will be a lot more at stake when the two sides clash in North Canton on Saturday. By finishing as the top two teams in the Northern Ohio Soccer League last season, both teams qualified for Ohio North's brand new Tournament of Champions competition which features the best teams from different Ohio North-sanctioned leagues. This past weekend, both NOSL teams defeated their Akron Premier League (APL) opponents in the semifinals to set up another cup final between them.
The City of Ohio flexed their might, winning 4-0 over APL champions Akron United FC before Greater Columbus dispatched Leones FC by a score of 5-0 to ensure the two NOSL teams would meet in the final. Saturday's winner will hoist the OSAN Tournament of Champions cup trophy, and while adding silverware to their trophy cabinet is tantalizing, both teams will want to begin the new NOSL campaign on the right foot.
